We've decided to add a brick pizza oven to the patio...something like this: Attachment: It's a double afterthought so fitting it and building a proper foundation will be a bit of a challenge. This is the basic layout with the oven in the corner: Attachment:

I have a patio, a lower patio, patio extension all ready converging in the corner where the oven is going. So I have 2 choices, demolish what's there or build on top....I think building on top is a lot less work so that's what I'm doing.....but that will mean there are 5 or 6 pieces of footer under the oven which seems a lot less than optimal...but that's what I'm doing then I'll put a slab with lots of steel in it over all that to tie it all together and keep the over on top stable. I dug most of the first piece of new footer Saturday evening and finish up up Sunday morning. Since Sunday was fathers day and frickin hot Lana felt bad i had to be out there working....and gave me a tarp to block the morning sun and a fan so I could work faster Attachment: I took a little break 12-2 and ran out to get the concrete mix and steel then poured the 1st of the new footers then moved on to digging the second part: Attachment: I'm drilling into the old work about 4" and driving in rear to give it a chance of staying together.....a chance..... |

2 down, I to go. I didn't bother trying to make this round, I just left it below grade for now and will go round from here up. The rear will tie into the cap I'm planning to be sure everything stays put

This is going to be the front of the oven and open for wood storage so it probably doesn't need any structure....but I'm feeling better safe than sorry...so time to dig.

Wednesday was a lost day as I had to go pick up the 8" blocks and it started raining about when I got home. Last night I nearly finished the outer circle. My plan is to wrap the outside with foam board or similar and core fill everything...that should take care of the space between the block faster, easier, stronger than trying to get mortar to stay put.
