I set the steering stuff aside and got back to the engine. I cleaned up the decks which seemed to take forever then checked the liner protrusion. I got 2-4 which should seal fine.....but I set them to 5+ last time so that kind of confirms the deck is not really strong enough to support the liners and things are moving.....but they are high enough to seal :)

I had targeted 050/080" but measured 045/080". The new target is 100/100 so I cut the intakes 055" deeper. I try and take care of the exhausts tomorrow with a 020" cut.

.100/.100, I like that. Should keep the valves safe with that. :D

Forgot to show the angle blocks, they make setting the vavle angle pretty easy.

The engine stuff is exciting!

I have a question about the steering stuff. This might just be personal preference, but I don't really understand the choice of going with super-quick steering and then requiring a bunch of assistance. If this car was being built to drive around in a busy Walmart parking lot, that would make a ton of sense, but that's not the use case, is it?

I've always preferred manual steering once the car is moving more than 10 mph - and at higher speeds the steering inputs tend to be so small that I don't care much about the steering rate, as long as everything is tight and the suspension and alignment are dialed in.

Are you planning to do autocross or something similar with this car? Or is it just how you like the car to feel & react to steering inputs? My guess is that your answer will have something to do with being some combination of much smarter than me and much faster than me.

The "right" steering I guess depends on a lot of things, most of which are personal preferences I guess. I just don't enjoy doing battle with the steering wheel. The stock 308 steering is fine at speed but pretty heavy at slower speeds so even with the stock ration I personally think it would be better with some assist....I like to know I can control the car with 1 hand, that ain't stock 308 steering. The electric steering allows the assist to vary with speed so I can have any amount of feed back at any speed I please.

Ratio wise I really like to be able to keep my hands put and just turn so i have control of the wheel at all times not using a palm or arms crossing and for that to be true 1.5 turns lock to lock is about right.

I enjoy a good autoX or winding road so I want the car to be at its best there. The suspension is firm, I fixed the roll and the dive....I want the steering to to match, quick and precise so I feel connected and the car just goes where I look....its a feeling I'm after really more than anything numeric....its hard to describe but for me the changes I've been making and testing have been making the driving experience better. For sure other might want something different but for me its getting pretty close to perfect.
