A thread for the various projects going on.

New 4L build with major changes and lots of new stuff.

Let's see,
Valvetrain mods for 11k rpm operation:
5mm valve stem
custom conical spring
custom Ti retainers
NBC one guides and seats

Intake:
50mm ITB's

Pistons, custom short skirt, cross forging aka narrow pin boss.

Dry sump conversion:
This has to be the most complex bit. clean sheet design, I knew that there was a fair amount of calcs required but kept telling myself it would be easy, a little bit at a time. took roughly 36hrs to work out the design and calc the forces involved. even reverse engineered the F360 setup to get an idea of what the factory did, thankfully my work checks out to what they did. The pressure pump will remain as is, the pan bottom gets swapped out for a new design. The pickup tube is replaced with a new flange and hose going out to the tank. That leaves the scavenge pump, this is where I went a bit off reservation and designed one from scratch to be remote. Yep, an electric driven scavenge pump, helical geared unit that can pump up to 60 GPM @ 69psi at peak. I'm currently working on sourcing a brushless motor to drive it. Brushed motors are easy enough but I'd like something a bit more maintenance free. One mfg offered a magnetic driven option, tempting but $$$$. Given that the scavenge section is not pumping to pressure the same as the pressure pump the power is far less to drive it. for example the pressure side at 57.66 GPM @ 60psi needs 1.12Hp or 841 watts, the scavenge section is a mere .110Hp or 97 watts for the same flow but with a diff head of 3 meters. That's at an equivalent 9k rpm.

With an electric setup the scavenge pump can be controlled by the ECU and monitored with a couple sensors, pressure, level, temp.

I tore down and rebuilt the gearbox, a late 328 unit. every single bearing was replaced, two synchros and one selector ring. Even had to replace the main shaft got the last one from Ferrari. parts cost alone was north of 5k. Oh and synchros are ZF, trouble is ZF sold the rights to that design to RBT trans ages ago, the same guts were used in the Ford GT. RBT is thankfully 15 mins from me! Though Ferrari used metal vs bronze baulk rings -it's an oil thing-.

Pics of course..

fancy! Any idea when it might be done or what kind of power you expect?

Are you planning to do anything with a tuned airbox on it? That's something that keeps bouncing around in my mind for my build.

I screwed up big time.
I should have sent my car to Scott and let him surprise me with something crazy.

Well as with all these projects I'm overdue and behind schedule :D Hoping to get to the dyno in the next 60 days. A lot of parts are still being made and I still have the harness to finish.

Shooting for 500Hp NA on this build, we'll see. Dyno sims show 575Hp @ 9krpm. The trick up my sleeve here is not using stock cyl heads :D Heck they're not even 3x8 heads

Tuned intake plenum would be fun but a real chore with separate banks, end up looking like the F360 or any of the modern ones with shared plenum valving. For this one Nick wants some flash and ITB's with tuned velocity stacks scratch that itch for him. These ITB's are from the BMW M6 V10, fancy units that are perfect for these projects. cast stainless bellcranks, nichrome springs, needle roller sealed bearings for the shafts, etc.. 50mm bore with a 25* sweep transition to an oval that's just about the perfect size.

575 seems plenty doable if everything matches. 60 days seems aggressive, my project was planned got 6 months

what ECU are you going with?
What are you doing for headers and exhaust?....that's a lot of air to move out.

ECU: Link G4+ xtreme. As much as I'd like the capability of say a Motec or Mclaren the costs are to high. Programming one from scratch is honestly to time consuming as well. This is Nicks Personal car so it has to be something that can be serviced or adjusted by someone else if I can't.

Exhaust is custom, I've lost track of the various exhaust builders we've got prototyping and fabbing stuff up for us. I design and engineer it and let Nick source out some things like this, given his personal long time friendship with Capristo and extensive background in selling exhausts for not just Ferrari but Lamborghini and Porsche it's one less fire I have to deal with.

Got my hands full with the engine bits as it is!

Fancy!

Did you have a 7mm stem exhaust ground down or am I seeing things?
