I think you're spot on with the head gasket comment.....MLS gakets are simply torqued and done but composite gaskets often need multiple re-torques over the engine's life, but torque, wait 24 hours then re-torque gets you 90% of the way there.

I prefer to give it a couple of heat cycles.
I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with a Ferrari engine that way, but...

The BMW M30 (3.5 iron block aluminum head I6) is renowned for an almost unlimited service life. At 240k miles or so I failed the original head gasket in my '92 535i. I had the head decked and reassembled with MLS gasket and ARP studs. I used a ft-lbs rather than torque + angle tightening spec.
After about a week of driving daily, I pulled the valve cover to retorque the studs. 12 of the 14 moved. The ones that didn't move were the very forward pair right behind the water pump. All the others moved, and moved progressively more as I went further back on the engine, where the coolant circulation wasn't as good.

On the other hand, when I did the same thing for my Northstar, only the upper middle bolt in each head moved, and even then only tiniest bit. That's aluminum block and head, but still MLS and straight torque procedure.
