I thought inlet trumpets had to be "bull nosed" to be effective, like: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachmen ... eu_inj.jpg My understanding is the air is pulled in over the sides ... Pete |

For a straight walled tube, yes the bull nose is the best option. These trumpets have a 1.5* taper but use a bezier curve to do so, the top is flared out for aesthetics and flow. I did flow calcs on the trumpets and intake run, I'll have to dig them up but the numbers were very good. |

Thanks! It runs good actually, always a bit of tense moment when spinning a new build up to 9k though. We did have one event that was a 'pucker factor 11" .... Just about to hit 8.5k on a pull when all of a sudden there was an explosion of oil and smoke !!!! Immediately shut it down and went in to investigate. The scavenge pump was loose and one of the low side hoses from the pan was off. Somehow the bolts that held the adapter plate for the pump had worked loose and since they are captive it backed off the pump assy, the pump stopped turning and the hose also managed to unscrew itself as well ??? The real scare was weather or not the cam survived.... Oh and the cam timing trigger is also in this housing... I must have a solid gold horseshoe in my ass that weighs a ton! ZERO damage, ZERO! reassembled and back up to pulling to 8.5k inside an hr. The clearance between the trigger and sensor is 2mm how it didn't touch anything I'll never know!

Ahh, going over all the video Nick found the one with the 500+Hp, I was busy watching the AFR. Don't have a print out of this pull unfortunately. But it shows that this engine has the power we just need to fine tune it to get it all out. Uncorrected 522 = 550... Soooo close,oh so close to 600...

and that's at only 7500 rpm....it should be still climbing. When does the engine go in the car and Nick get to drive it? |

Juggling a couple engine builds and projects, probably drop the engine in this week before I leave. But I'll be back up in September as we've got a project coming in from Australia and another gent driving in from Colorado to supercharge his 328. Best laid plans and all, I don't hold my breath for actually driving in the next week though. Before the yrs up hopefully but not this week. I'm also trying to get the LeMans engine into another restoration that's wrapping up and holds priority. |
