Blasphemy Hans! There will be no turbocharger on any car of mine! Now a supercharger, that’s another story

SC or turbo, I wouldn’t think twice about adding 8 psi, over that and you need to start thinking about an intercooler, maybe better pistons and such things. 8psi will get you about a 50%, so over 500 hp.

If you need any help coming up with bad ideas to help you step it up a notch from insane to ludicrous, just let me know how I can help

I made the second rail today. I think with all the carving I did on it I made about 15 lbs of clips....the pile on the floor is pretty big. I thought I'd get it done during the week, but other things got in the way. Nothing welded yet, but it's 1 step closer.

tomorrow will probably be a wash....I have to take grandma to the airport, then Lana and I are on our own with the little one. hopefully there will still be car time. Lana promised 1 day per weekend if I watch him the other day so she's free.....but usually it doesn't work exactly the way it's planned.

As mentioned I am going to swap the transfer gears that will drop the rpm at any speed by 23%. It looks like I'll re-cut the clutch shaft to accept the trans gear up top. Then down on the bottom I'll make a new hub to extend the trans shaft and add an outer bearing and cut the engine gear out to fit over it with some kind of spline and nut arrangement....at least that's the plan.

The V12 will have EXACTLY the same shape/rpm power curve that the V8 had so it's happy at the same rpms the V8 was. The difference it that the power/torque curves will be basically double what the stock V8 had, so there will be way more power/torque available in the lower gear than the tires could ever handle which seems like a waste and makes the car hard to drive. That is exactly the situation I had with the my supercharged V8 and the V12 should be nearly the same with a bit less torque down low and a bit more hp up top.

The gear change will put 1st gear about 3/4 of the way to where 2nd gear is currently and that should be just about right. With the supercharged V8 I only used 1st gear to idle around parking lots. For driving I just started in 2nd gear .....or 3rd if I was feeling really lazy and don't bother shifting at all around town....it had that much torque. For quick starts 2nd gear was much better than 1st because I could at least modulate the wheel spin. It launched good in 3rd too (with the carbon clutch, the kevlar clutch fried) but that required a pretty serious hard launch, I'm certain the best 0-60 times would have been a 3rd gear launch with street traction, but 2nd would probably be best at the drag strip all covered with rubber and traction compound.

With Grandma back home in Ukraine the reality of how much work an 8 month old is has set in and slowed progress a bit

I welded the new rails on today and it looks pretty good to me.

Next I think I'll do another test fit in the car before I do ant more welding just to be sure.....

Well go back inside where it's warm!

I was hanging out by the pool a bit today too.....you know, pulling the tarp back down tight and stuff.

Art,
I did a rough test fit back in post 572 blocking it into the forward and lowered position I settled on and everything looked good.

I want to put it back in and have another look now that I will have a more accurate placement and check things like the frame clearance for the oil pan extension and gas tank and frame clearance for the bell housing.

I’m going to try to do the test fit during the week, I need to pull the jig plates off and get the mount back on the trans so it’ll take 2-3 hours to get everything back in the car. I have the evening shift watching the little monster so I might not have time until next Sunday.

If Lana ever caught me with the baby down in the shop....I don't even want to think about it......

oh....I don't even like to think about how long this is going to take. I think spring 09 is reasonable at the rate I’m going now. There is talk that grandma will come back which would speed things up, but right now I’m limited to 4-6 hours a week were it was more like 10-15 when grandma was visiting. If the little ones sleeping habits improve, the time line will get shorter I guess.

It turns out there's a nap on my watch

It seemed to go in pretty well. During tomorrow's nap I'll see what the bell housing is going to look like in there.....if I can get it in there.

Thanks.

There's nothing like making the engine 8" or 10" inches longer to eat up engine bay room. There is a little over 1" of clearance to the gas tank on the passenger side, so that's ok I think. I'm not sure yet on the drivers side with the bell housing and drop gears, I'll have a look at that tonight.

I'm a little worried about where the heck am I going to run the front header out. May up where there is a notch in the gas tank where the AC compressor was??? Maybe over the bell housing? Maybe both

I'm honesty not concerned about the change to the CG with the new engine. It's no heavier than the V8 with the supercharger was, it fact I think it's lighter and I know the weight sits a lower particularly since I just lowered crankshaft about 2.5". Moving the engine 3” forward can hurt either. I don’t think I’ll have to move the fuel tanks.
