A V12 Lambo motor will be most interesting.

Bring it on

So I made a head bolt tool for my QV years ago and it's been fine and fits the TR head....exect 2 end bolts where I cut the head shorter. No problem, I made a second slightly different tool to fit back when I torqued the ehads to ream the cam journals. Last night it cracked...so I welded it....then it was twisted almost 90 degrees by the time I was done so its shot!

.....all fixed

The other thing I did last night was rush around collecting up my timing case parts to see what I have and what I don't have and get an email with pics out to GT parts to see what they can help with. Then called to followup and was told they were really busy and would call me back so parts for the weekend is looking sketchy

The timing casing needs some deburing and general cleanup so I'll get that all done in the coming days at least so it's actually ready to assemble when the parts arrive. I also need to sort out what mounting hardware I need....I have a bench piled with stuff some or which I probably need. I also need to get rolling on the drop gear housing too and figure out what parts I still need for that so parts or no parts I'll be busy.

Called again today and read the email to them.....they get right back to me......that was 4 hours ago :(

I posted this on the forum thread talking about a logo but I'd add it here too since it's going on the car

I have an idea.

My basic plan has been to make a GemelloCattivo badge to replace the quattrovalvole emblem on my car.....I'm thinking a rear view like the one attached with the new emblem might be a good logo image.

It also reminded me I need to actually make the emblem...which means figuring out what font it is

I looked at a couple thousand fonts I think....and gave up. I have a buddy who's great with cad and pretty artsy, he says he can copy the front and fill in the missing letters so I'll have both a logo and an emblem in a week or 2.

With the timing case parts clearly not going to be available this weekend I'm pondering the cam end covers. Some time back Brian.G on the old forum offered casting help and I think I'm going to reach out to him and see if I can get him to cast the 4 end covers I need.

I'm planning to use original 400i cam bolt covers on the front of the engine which are really rough sand casting and should be a nice contrast to the satin finish on everything else so the front is set.

The 400i also had rough castings on the back end but they won't fit the TR heads. I probably could cut them down maybe, but custom castings would be a nice finishing touch I think to give a nod to the end of the era.

Having built a few motors, some very, very custom, I'm amazed at the speed that Mark is going on this. Absolutely amazed. BTW: was reading an old post by Mark and see that he used Jerry Branch for his porting. Interesting, I used Kenny Augustine, who claimed to have been better, but then again, I never beat Cook Neilson's duck, and Branch did those heads.

I must have just been banging through the simple stuff back then :)

here's another gem:

I was thinking spring/summer '08 when I started, but spring '09 is a lot more likely I think. There is a LOT left to do. The engine is just a rough shell that needs to be finished and built, I need an intake, headers, exhaust, cooling system, dry sump conversion, adapt the trans, ECU install, port the heads, finish a brake upgrade I started.....no shortage of stuff left to do.

and now it's spring/summer 2014
