Kind of saving a place at the moment. I was reading a thread about an ex electric power steering install along with a super performance 2.5 quick ratio rack....which of course got me thinking about doing something more extreme.

a keyser 2:1 steering quicken is 7" long and would yield a quite nice 1.6 turns lock to lock I believe

Then there are electric power steering kits the use a common chevy equinox unit that is 9/25" long

and together they would almost sort of fit....or could be made to almost fit. I will probably come to my senses and drop it but at least now I'll rememeber what I was thinking.

Cut and weld, just cut and weld. It will fit then. Come on, you know this. ;)

Yes, but its the assembled length that is the issue which means cutting the steering shaft in the column and perhaps the column itself.....along with body stuff that would likely be in the way.

.....but having proper racecar feeling steering might make it all worth the effort. I can make the stock 3.2 turns lock to lock become 1.6 or 1.25 I guess. I think I read the F488 is 1.33 for comparison and Lana's Mercedes suv is 2.5 so for sure 2.5 does not real overly fast of sensitive.

This looks like the same equinox unit only a bit cheaper

Then there is this unit that is new not rebuilt but I think less powerful but I THINK its is shorter and would be an easier install.....but dimensions are proving impossible to confirm, I saw one place list the 22w unit as 7.5", 2 inches shorter than the equinox unit and I THINK the only different is they change the motor...but......

Well, the order has not gone smoothly. 250 is really 280 and then 120 for air freight....400 is a lot more than the 250 I was planning to explain to Lana so the order is on hold while they look at other shipping options tomorrow once China is awake.

A little change of plan...I now own a ford fiesta steering booster and talking to a guy that sell controls adapters for them for $50

Now we are talkin'. Just throw some parts at it. You always come up with the most interesting ideas and solutions.

Thats the idea. I'm talking to the controller guy to see if he can add a feature or 2 for me to make it do what I'd like. If not I'll still probably but it for $50, then see what its doing exactly and setup the ECU to do it better :) I'm pretty sure he's just kind of simulating the ford ECU, probably by supplying a CAN signal. Once I have the box I can read that signal and program the ECU to supply it and giving me full control to tune the steering feel.....if he can't supply his little box with the added feature to get me close.
