What a shame. However, it appears that you built it right, so these are minor problems, might delay you for a bit, but not long term.

Mk_e,

Please tell me to get stuffed if necessary  , but I have to ask, to double check if you like ... are we sure the crankshaft firing order matches the camshaft(s) firing order?

Best
Pete

The way I'm going lately it's good to check everything!

But yes, the cams match the crank. What I am going to double check though is the depth of the piston reliefs, just to be sure.

I know the rear head exhaust valves had to be the cam out of time after re-install.....all was right before that.

The front head I'm pretty sure I remember that after setting the lash on one cam I locked it at TDC and started the other, turned the cam.....and heard the valves going tink tink tink, panicked when I realized what I'd just done , but saw nothign wrong, said whew! and continued on......without pulling out the valves to be certain because I'm an idiot sometimes.

New valves haven't arrived yet but Lana's been finding uses for my time so it all works out I guess.

Not a lot of time this weekend :(

But I did finish tearing down the heads and straightening all the valves that were straightenable. There were a couple tweaked intakes on the rear head, but oddly not 2 in any 1 cylinder so I'm unclear how that happened. The other head everything was cylinder specific so that made more sense to me.....

Next up is make the coolant pressure test parts so I can see whats leaking and get it fixed. Once that's sorted I want to check every valve on it's seat to be certain I don't have a alignment problem that caused the tweaked valves. Then I'll confirm piston to valve clearances for +/-20 deg or TDC to be certain the piston pockets are correct. Slow and careful this time....

I know.....

Lana's been finding chores for me to do and since the valves have not arrived I haven't pushed back too hard.

John, how did you make out with all those floods I've been seeing on tv?

Chris, we're high & dry, thankfully, but it's been a really bad week for lots of others. I heard we received 20" of rain in 14 hours - I was thinking it was time to start building another ark.

Glad to hear all is well John!

Still no valves and as Chris predicted spring yard work has kept me busy...and the yes despite my pre-planning there will be mulch :(

But, have finished most of the other tasks now and should be able to get back into the shop! I'm chopping at the bit...but honestly a little break was probable the best for my mental health so all is well.
