And now for something completely different...coolant talk. So I decided to ditch the Evans stuff and planned on 30% green stuff because I read that is about the min amount for adequate corrosion protection.

Today I'm wondering if water+waterwetter is a better option? The spec that first caught my eye is this one where they say it helps most under moderate loads

and also high loads of course

Knowing I've had head gasket problem keeping thing cool seems a good thing and

They also claim its better than green coolant in all the corrosion tests

Boiling points coolant or no are about the same (265 v 250F %15psi) so now I'm trying to decide how much I care about freezing...the car sits in the shop but power does go out now and again

I'm kind of leaning toward the waterwetter

Wait...it its lowering surface tension that probably means it leaks better? I may need to rethink that plan.

My little 1600cc BDA in my little Lotus Europa are not in the same league as the FrankenFerrari but it made sense to me to ditch antifreeze and go with Waterwetter and distilled water. Where I live, the winters are fairly mild (i.e. occasionally snows but not every year) but that doesn't matter since I keep my car in an unheated garage where it NEVER gets near freezing anyway. I don't know that I've ever driven it in freezing weather but if I have, it doesn't sit outside long enough for freezing to be an issue. So freezing is not an issue. That being the case, why bother with antifreeze? I also have no concerns with overheating partially because I never go downtown and get in any traffic jams but I doubt I'd have a problem even then.

Before using Waterwetter, I did have to back off the ignition timing a bit to keep it from pinging but I wouldn't claim that Waterwetter made that difference.

Every year, I drain the coolant and replace it with new distilled water and a new bottle of Waterwetter.

I also have no problem with water leaks but I have an old tech cast iron block so I can understand your caution but it would be worth an email to the Red Line folks (https://www.redlineoil.com/contactus) and see what they think. Their tech support people have been very responsive and helpful to me.

Thanks for sharing that info. Your results seems to be exactly what they claim...cooler heads which is what had me looking at it to take a bit of strain of my troublesome gaskets.

In other news I got the front headers and waterpump on yesterday before calling it quits. I'll start on the alternator this morning which is the other shit job...oh and the front to rear exhaust pipe that doesn't fit quite right since I wrapped it, after that its pretty easy stuff. I'm off work next week so I'm sure I'll get to the noise making this week.

I had 3 space heaters but 2 are completely dead and the 3rd just hanging on....so I just bought a couple more.

I also picked up a couple bottles of water wetter and learned there are other brands, who knew?
