I'm looking for a time suck - I'll never have a garage where I can do a project of this scope - but maybe I can mill out my custom throttle bodies in my basement for just a bit more than double what I'd pay someone else to do it for me.

And more to the point - those photos look great! Seems you're well on your way to getting those little touches done without having to go on a hunt for rare old weather-beaten plastic parts.

How did you decide to go with resin instead of a filament printer? Was it all about resolution and part quality, or were there other considerations?

I'm leaning towards filament because it seems more common, and because the ability to choose different materials for different applications seems handy.

We've had a filament printer for a while and its ok for some things but its very hard to get clean edges/corners and layer to layer delamination is hard to avoid. P{LA prints pretty well and is pretty forgiving but but the problems get much worse with other more useful materials like ABS....but it works. When we got is it was about the largest I could find at 12x12x16 inch build space and cost about $700 for the kit plus upgrades I did.

At the time resin stuff was WAY out of budget but they have come down dramatically recently so we picket one up. It really prints nice but its more messier for sure but so worth it IMO. We've been using an ABS like material (these are thermal set not thermal plastic) so its got some flex so snap features work well and we can just copy molded parts without having to redesign for the brittle PLA. There is a pretty big material selection...clear, rubber, and such but again a mess to change over unless you buy multiple tanks but we just have the gray ABS for now. Its a nice addition to the shop and I have a few more projects in mind for it like a case for the multiMAP and maybe the velocity stacks for inside the airbox.

My printing got a little more problematic. I was happy with the parts so I painted then but when I went to install them they made the mirrors look awful, so I pulled the mirrors to paint them and noticed how bad the connectors were and thought maybe that was why they don't work...but no it look like I need to find some replacement parts.......
