I'm thinking it may be a good idea to look in there with a bore scope before taking it apart to see if you can put some pressure on the coolant system and see where its coming from before taking it apart. They have some really neat little bore scopes on ebay for $15 that plug into a smartphone.
$15 plus the $500 I'd need to shell out for a smart phone to replace my flip-phone
Honestly the only way I see to fill the intake runner with coolant is if there's a hole in the runner wall and the only way to fix it is to pull the head so I'm just not seeing a reason to delay.....I just need to fix it.
I got a couple hours in the shop last night and used it to pull the intakes off (because of the common fuel rail and angled injectors they I can't pull just 1). I still can't see anything obvious but I didn't expect to because it is was obvious I would have seen it before I installed the head.
Thursday I'll try to get the cams out and be ready to pull the head Saturday morning and hopefully be re-installing the head the following Saturday. So far the tear-down is going smoothly so fingers crossed I'll come in at closer to 6 hours than the 10 I guessed it would take....but I still need the alternator out of the way so I can get to the timing chain tensioner and that's a bugger.
