Just looking at those pictures with the engine in - I can't imagine what it will be like to be out in the car with the roof off, giving it some stick, with that engine just over your shoulder - the noise should be bloody amazing!!

I'm sure this was asked earlier but what is the weight difference between the 8 and the 12?

John

Awesome.

Why would it be easier to get it running with the Ducati stacks as opposed to what you have built with some kind of air filter?

I didn't make stacks yet and my air box isn't finished but I can have the duc stacks snapped on with about 1 hour of work. I'm thinking I should focus on the MUST have stuff and spend the 30-40 hours it will realistically take to make a nice stack/filter system once I know everything else is good to go.

I got to congratulate you Mark on doing this on your own. I know it's a task to drop a 308 motor but your dropping a v12 engine all by your self. I tip my pizza cap to you.

That is so tight ,that I am almost convinced you used vaseline to get it to fit.

I was really missing Erik who used to live about 10 minutes away and would pop over to help from time to time, plus I really tweaked my back badly yesterday morning playing with the kids so this was quite a slow motion operation

Man oh man that engine is huge! Funny once you get in there, it just disappears.

That's exactly what I was thinking and the pictures just don't do it justice....hanging over the car you just look and say "no f-in way!" then once it's in you're left with a very different impression as it just blends in and as you say disappears. I can put my front headers in with the engine in place. I can reach the alternator. There seems to be as much or more room to do most stuff than before.....other than changing a clutch or setting lifter clearance that is, those are now engine out jobs.

Things will start to get tighter as I add the rest of the parts and that's what I was pondering a bit. The front exhaust needs to wrap over the bellhousing and follow it back down on the rear to tuck under the rear headers. The farther to the side the better because I need to put cooling lines in there too but I really don't think putting the exhaust along side the gas tank is a great plan.

I originally planed the exhaust to be 3" but that is only good to about 800hp so I really think I need 3.5" to get everything that is there to be had....so I need to buy new pipes before I can do much fitting.

Lots to think about......

That is the thought that gets me down the shop stairs every day :)

I think it's about 100lbs....BUT my V8 had a blower on it which added 60-80lbs so it should be close to a wash in my case. Also remember I moved the engine itself forward 3" and down 2" so this should NOT be a fiadillac when its done, it should instead be better balanced than the the stock 308....which brings us back to point one about getting it out on the road :)

I spent some time staring at stuff pondering.

I had planned to use QV air filter housings to keep a stock look and they fit fine but then the space is gone and I still need a coolant tank and oil tank in there somewhere. Another option is just go straight over toward the side vents and stuff a couple K&N filters in there somehow.

I'm also pondering just chopping and installing the ducati velocity stacks to get the engine running....they work out to 11" track length and I want about 12.5 but.....I have them.

A lot to think about.

Good going Mark . What about putting the oil tank and header tank in the boot !!! But keeping the zip cover in place ? Stock look and you can keep the QV filter housings ? Not sure about the levels though ? Some big milestones have been reach lately , great progress .

You have started me thinking about my 360 transplant again :o

She's actually a pretty good sport about it most of the time and she did offer to help.....but it would have come with safety a long list of safety concerns so it was just easier to do it alone.

She did get me a creeper for Christmas because I'd been talking about putting the engine in an she couldn't stand the though of me laying on the cold cement floor. She's very sweet.

I can't believe it fit, and I also can't believe you're not putting it on an engine dyno for the initial run-in :)

From my side, the block is going to Cali this week for linering, and I'm now the proud owner of a slightly hacked 456 intake manifold. Need to get some stubby extensions welded on for the ITB's. Know anyone who's good at welding & blending aluminum?
