I've read in general my sim program runs a but high on torque and a bit low on peak hp. I just got an update and when I opened the file to check what I liked for header dimensions .....the new number it spits out is 973hp!.....before I do anything about a tuned airbox (should be 5% there) or the pseudo-DI system(should be 3% here), just the DI correction bumps it to 1004hp.

1000hp is within my reach!

After I got over the 1000hp shocker i got back onto exhaust. I added a piece to the collector to get it to 5" which the sim wants and the got to work on the taper up to 3.5" exit pipe. The taper cone I bought so long ago isn't going to work because I need the taper on a curve so I took a 3" pipe bend, quartered it, beat it into submission and welded it back together to get me from 2 .375" to 3". Once I sand it smooth it should look good and gets me mostly to where I need to be.

Next I'll slice off the 3" and force fit a 3.5" piece to the 3" piece and have a MASSIVE exhaust system!..... that is borderline too small

Seeing the the big ''1000'' Hp again got me thinking, how can you use even half of that in a 308. ANY pedal input will spin tires, but no, traction control will take care of that and ''cut power'', but then, what is the use for the rest? Wouldn't you need BIG BIG tires to handle that much power? I just don't see any situations where all available power can be applied to the wheels. But awesome bragging rights!

A fair question and why the original plan was 550-600hp :)

What you're saying is absolutely true about 1st gear, mostly true about 2nd gear, maybe true about 3rd gear but probably not true about about 4th or 5th gears, at least going straight.....which is the answer to your question I think. The problem though of course is that it's making that power at high rpm and I already changed the final drive ratio so the shift into 4th will be at like....120-130mph? and into 5th at 150-160? Something like that and WAY above anything remotely safe without a track to drive on and a full cage and harness setup but I guess that's true for any car with massive hp leaving bragging rights as the only actual gain from the hp.

Personally I think 400hp to maybe 500hp is the real sweet spot for a hopped up 308. I also think we're looking at the end of an era on hopped up 308s. With the newest carts 30 years old and the values moving up I just don't see that 308s are being modified much anymore.

He's already modified the hub carriers to fit 360 wheels and put a bit more rubber down under the rear. The next step would be Konig widebody rear fenders.

Ok, the collector from hell is finished I think...hopefully I don't run into it's even more evil bother when I move on to the rear bank.

The exhaust work is brilliant.
Take a bow.

So all that power is to get you from 120 MPH to subsonic... cool. Hope those 360 tires help you!

Mark, thanks for the (mostly) daily entertainment, always in awe.

Daily entertainment means I'm getting closer to finished!

I actually have 550 wheels...but I think that's on the list of things I want to change. I think I want 18" wheels that look more like original 308 wheel. I have 348 sets I no long love too....always something.
