Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game

Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November

I know, I know......

I dusted off the ECU code Friday and after tonight the only think in the shop will be the ferrari so back to it!

In a way this is good in that now I have until spring to get it ready to drive. The suspension needs bushings, the steering rack seems to be leaking, lots of little jobs to be done that I planned to ignore. But fist I have an exhaust system to finish, and oil lines to run, and an ECU to wire, and.............

:)

This week end, promise.

In other news the guys at enginelab have decided to create a generic and open engine control model for people like me to use as a starting point and add to which will save me a lot of time....although I have mine 60-70% done I think. The bad news is going forward you may need to pay to get access to all the cool stuff...but I'm grandfathered in so no extra charge which made Lana very happy to hear :)

2pm and I'm finally in the shop to work on the ferrari! (delayed by VW brakes)

....now if only I could remember what my plan for the exhaust was exactly

I sent another 1+ cleaning up the mess from the VW but finally got to work and actually made something. I'm still working on the pipe the runs from the front headers back to the mufflers. I mad a slip-on piece that will connect to the mufflers when it's done.

Now I need to build something like a reverse collector to split the flow into the 2 mufflers.

A liitle closer.....

I crushed the 3.5" bend down and fit a tight 3" bend to get pointed toward the big muffler. Next up is add a 2" bend neatly and get that pointed toward the small muffler.

I'm also pondering buying an AME infinity-6 6 cylinder ECU. That will get me the 6 spark outputs I lose by not using the motec M150 and adds a bunch more inputs and outputs. I'm pretty sure I can set the second ECU up as a slave with all the tuning and data logging happening in the infinity-8 I already have. I still need to confirm the -8 actually has 12 fuel outputs, if not then adding the -6 is a must. I cleaned off the flow bench to start using it for ECU testing since it's got a plastic top so no worries but shorting anything. My plan is to use must stay quite time or wake kids to get going on the ECU so I'll know that's sorted and ready to go when the car is.

Mark, it looks like AEM have two versions of the Infinity 12:

One is called the Infinity-812, and is P/N 30-7111, and it has 12 injector outputs, but only 8 coil outputs. This one costs around $3000

The other is the original Infinity-12, and is P/N 30-7103, and it has the full 12 injector / 12 coil outputs. This one used to cost around $3200

Interestingly, on AEM's website they no longer show the original Infinity-12, only the 812 version, but in their 2014/15 catalog, they still show the original.

I'm pretty sure the infinity-12 is no longer available, only the -812 unless you can fins a -12 kicking around somewhere (I asked Jim at enginelab if he has a 140L kicking around which is the unit that became the -12 but haven't heard back) I think I THINK the infinity-8 that I have has 12 injector drivers with 4 disabled in the AEM firmware but accessible with the enginelab firmware and that is what I need to find out for sure and why I've cleared the bench. There is a chance the spark outputs are there too....but this is less probable I fear.

I'm 100% certain that 2 of the infinity-8h units at $1300 each or-6 at $1400 each is cheaper and gets you more I/O and that the processors are exactly the same. In the past I really didn't want to mess with 2 ECUs because tuning is a bugger but I know prior to the M150/M190 ECUs motec allowed 2 of the M800 ECUs to be used with all the main tuning done in the master and the values sent via CAN to the slave to make it much easier but you still needed to do any cylinder trim stuff directly in the slave unit. Looking at what is available in enginelab I think that idea can be taken 1 step further and do ALL the tuning in the master.

The -8 that I have has 17 analog and 2 knock sensors inputs a pair of -8h/6 units gets you 18 analog an 4 knock or in my case with a -8 & -8h I'd have 26 analog inputs then add the ana2 with 12 more analog inputs and I could be in data collection heaven :)

First I need to bench test the -8 and see what there is to see, then I'll make a proper plan......but this is low importance than finishing the mechanical stuff.
