The wekend is shaping up for warmer (high 40s, low 50s) but rain on Sunday for sure and maybe Saturday. I'm going to grab windows tonight and try to install them Saturday. I see no hope doors will be settled by then but I'm running to meet Lana at a door showroom after work today so there is a small chance....

There is some talk that the wall facing the house looks too plain and may need a window or 2 added....we'll see where that goes.

Then reworking the trusses. I changed my mind a little on how I want to structure it. It will now be 10ft wide, the ceiling in the middle will be 7'6", the short wall will be about 5'3". I am going to use the work I did optimizing a bit and glue/screw material to the existing 2x4s to make the roof 2x8 and floor 2x6. so it should be marginally adiquate just like that. Then I will sister on the 2x8 to the roof and knows its good. In the floor I'll add 2x6s spaced inbetween the existing trusses to make the floor 12"centers instead of 24" centers and know that is solid. I can't wait to get started and Sunday rain means woring inside at least that day....I need to frame the bathroom first but that is fast and onto real framing :)

Well, bring at the garage door store just confused us more and the windows I planned to grab are only almost like the ones on the house so that didn't happen. I did get started on the bathroom framing and 1 wall is ready to stand up but a couple delays last night. First I remembered Kevin's wise word about the lift and decided it would be a bad idea to drive tapcon screws into the floor not knowing what they might hit so adhesive it is.....but the temp was about 36F and water was leaking out the waterpipe, it seems the ball shutoff valve don't completely hut it off :( , so I had to plug it, clean up the now frozen water and wait for it to dry today before I can stand the wall, hopefully I don't need to wait too long.

oh, I forgot the best part. The garage door place sells them installed so I asked about installing high mount which he's going to quote, but Lana's reaction was "so my hatch won't hit the door anymore?" , so it sounds like high mount and lift ready is APPROVED.

You want to also consider Jackshaft mounted garage door openers instead of the normal ones. This way you have nothing hanging down in the center. Nice when you have a lift since a normal garage door opener hangs down right where you don't want it to be. You will need electric near the wall instead of the center of the ceiling. The Liftmaster jackshaft opener is really nice. I bought 2 but have only installed one so far. Waiting for a warmer day.

If you are going to add permanent stairs I would also consider putting the bathroom up in the attic instead of taking up floor space on your slab. Why eat up valuable shop space for a bathroom? I have even thought about just putting a simple urinal in thinking if I feel the need to sit down I would just go inside the house to use the bathroom? One less toilet to clean.

Yup, talked the garage door guys about including that and high mounted tracks in the quote. Still not sure what we're going to do for doors.....things get complicated when they are decortive.

Its for the pool so water kids aren't dripping on the wood floors in the house. Lana scolded me that it was too small.

Yesterday by noon I had a couple sheets laying in the loft to walk on while I work, but then progress slowed and I accomplished very little. A lot of preparing and planning, a couple things that were not as expected like the nails I couldn't get out, started cutting and about 1/2 way though realized were screws or the fact that its not 15'10" from the peak to the wall but more like 16' 6" so 16' boards don't quite make it so a plan change was needed or the 5" screws I ordered that arrived as 2.5" screws or realization that there are roofing nails in the roof sheeting that will need to be cut if I want the new boards up there......it might be a couple more weeks before I'm done framing this room.

I think I bought a two pack of the jackshaft openers for $500 a couple months ago. Came with two of everything.

That makes a lot of sense about the pool. I was wondering why there was an exterior door to the bathroom?
