Maybe methanol for coolant, you can run it on that.

It would be just like an expander cycle rocket engine.

Fortunately I don't know what that is because yes, obviously the car NEEDS rocket engines

This is not directly related to your current issues, but is related to the project overall - and it's something I can't stop thinking about.

Do you think that the approach you took to modify the heads to work with the block was easier/cheaper or harder/pricier than designing full custom heads in CAD and then doing a 3D print of patterns followed by lost PLA casting? It seems to me that with the amount of machine work that you ended up doing anyhow, it wouldn't have been any harder if you started with a raw casting vs starting with cut & welded OEM heads - but I'm probably grossly oversimplifying.

I'm not knocking the approach you took, but this has been a long-running project and CAD/CAM technology has become a bit more accessible every year. I expect that we're less than 10 years away from seeing people design and cast custom cylinder heads as a cheaper/easier alternative to billet. I ask you about this because I see you as someone who would be capable of that kind of ambitious project if you decided it was a way you wanted to go.

I don't expect I'll ever have the resources, but I do daydream about a CBX engine with gear-driven cams, late TSCC-style combustion chambers, straight, downward-angled intake ports, and (heretical) water jackets. Wait, should I just get a stupid K1600?

Didn't a dude on HybridZ do exactly that and cast a custom cylinder head for the Nissan L28 using Honda K-series ports and valvetrain, including the VTEC?

Thank you for the pointer - got some interesting reading ahead of me!

Reversing the idea there is also a 288GTO replica out there with a billet 60 degree V12 block that uses TR heads and crank and such.

I guess the "right" answer depends on what you're building. For me the goal was use ferrari parts....which made this a lot more work as everything needed to be tweaked. But clearly there were other possible paths.
