every time I say I'm going to do something...well I finally did! I ordered some JIS standard M8 nuts that use a 12mm wrench instead of the ISO/DIN standard 13mm wrench. Mcmaster even had them in yellow zinc plating to match everything else so I'll swap them out when they arrive.

God, there's no pleasure in life quite like actually following through on some important-but-not-urgent thing you've been meaning to do for a long, long time.

I thought maybe I could reuse the orings but there is a reason I ordered new. I found something at mcmaster that will do fine and they should be here tomorrow. this means no need to rush and just plan on noise next weekend.

I thought about 12pt flange nuts but my OCD just wouldn't allow the visual mismatch to the other hardware :o
......even if they were the best option functionally.

While o-rings are a topic, let me share a source for viton o-rings. Marco rubber. I say viton, yet after a quick review, they seem to have it all. marcorubber.com

Wait, mcmaster in not the only place to buy stuff? :?:

Apple rubber has been my go-to for special o-rings

I've got planting to do today but hopefully back to the timing cover this evening. I guess there is no reason I can't do the clutch, drop gear case case and intake before the timing cover. Something should happen today.

That's really the best news from yesterday. The orings I ordered arrived and are the wrong cross section because yes for a 2nd time I soaked orings in lacquer thinner to clean them which swelled them up so I measured a .240" (6mm) cross section when it was really about 0.210"....so orings Tuesday. I also had to pressure wash the driveway to get rid of the kseal sparkle and walkway to clean off the graphite foot prints....but the sink is nice.
