Time to test the deck lid...hmmm....it doesn't actually touch, maybe 0.03"clearance. I checked and I can probably lower the engine mounts another 0.06" or 0.09" and can take 0.06"-0.09" off the bottom of the lid in the offending area. I think it's ok....ish

Oh, and I shortened the ducts a little and relocated the throttle actuator a bit so now it assembles fine. I need to clean up the dust in the shop then it's time to pull the engine.

You could also mill down the valve cover a bit further it seems. If the engine really doesn’t move that much this should be fine?

In my mind I'd cut it low enough to fit but wanted to leave it as tall as possible so the center cylinders get enough air....its tighter than I hoped. Now If I cut it the end flanges get smaller and the ducts won't fit right. But I measured the engine to frame clearance and its just shy of 1/4" so I have no worries about removing another 1/16" while its out. Than 1/16 or 3/32 off the bottom of the lid before I install it and I have matching 3/16" clearance top and bottom and that should be fine.

Now that the glass and bondo is done I cleaned the shop....with the leave blower. It did a surprisingly good job.

Meant the ribs on the top - those seem to stand quite proud still.

Ahh. The side pics are misleading because the ribs are flat but the casting curved making the ribs about 0.40" on the ends but only 0.04" in the middle so almost nothing to cut

Thought I'd pull the engine today....but didn't get past the coolant tank, it didn't look so good so I figured best to paint it now so it's got a few months to dry

There was an F1 race to watch and I was assigned a few chores so only got about 1/2 with the engine pull, the rear and most of the left side cleared

You just can't have nice stuff anymore. 23 years and how many miles? They should be like new.
