Nice! I assume there will be a lift in there.

I don't know about the lift...I keep thinking maybe then talking myself out of it. My concern is that the building is smaller then I wanted so I keep thinking the space needs to be multipurpose whenever possible and I really like having room around a car to work. I'm thinking the bay in front of the powder room (rear the house) is the least useful and will be when I put the yard equipment....that might be the place for a lift. ...or maybe the yard stuff in the center of the center bay making the end two effectively 1.3 bays wide. I need to get moved in and see what works.

Re what to put in attic space: you put stuff up there. All kinds of stuff. Looks like you have a nice unplanned area. Put in tongue-and-groove subfloor and a pull-down ladder.

Yes, yes, yes.

I have a 30'X40' or made even a littler larger garage. No attic. Running out of space to put things
Almost all wall space is covered with tables or shelves.

Those trusses are 2x4 bottom on 24" centers with about a 9' span so as it they aren't going to safety hold much weight. If I add the left over 2x6s it would be strong enough and I've seen pot light housings that will work in that space so its do-able....and I'll probably do it.

But I'm not kidding when I say I'm not sure what I'll put up there. I'm not a keeper in general. I store stuff during a project then I clean up/clean out before the next project. I keep tools and basic materials so maybe stuff like my wire/connectors/ect that I don't use that often and won't be bothered by temperature or mice (I'm in the county) could live on a shelf or in a bin up there. I'll keep the leftover shingles, they could go up there.

If the opening were bigger than 2' wide I might put stuff like the bikes or kayaks up there for the winter...but I still need a place for them downstairs when its warm and I don't have an equal volume of winter stuff to swap, just the snowblower and a couple sleds. They do make little cargo lifts...maybe I could do a pull down stair and something like a 3x6 lift:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Garage-Gator-1 ... 1000239759

that would make putting bikes and such up there easy.....or some kind of drop down ramp....I don't know

My real fear is I want to build a boat after the car. If I do that the garage will be full with no place left to work....then maybe the lift goes in the other garage so I can stuff 3 cars in it. 1 bay has a big beam hanging down but the other is 10-11 feet tall. Or I sneak a shed behind the garage for the yard stuff. ....a problem for another day.

WOW! It is gorgeous. Love the integration with the house. Absolutely beautiful.

Thanks! I'm thinking if I plant a few thing that match the front of the house in the space between the house and garage they will visually merge together, but I don't think Lana's on-board with that plan. We were talking about walkways and patios and such last night and there was clearly a lot of talking left to do.

So that is a great option to help fit 2 cars in 1 spot and they are useful changing oil or something like that, but no so useful for rotating tires or working on brakes or suspension or not universal.

My biggest concern in a workshop is that it locks me into where I need to park the car. in a huge shop you just set it up with lots of clearance all around and don't give it another thought but my shop is far from huge so I will need to be a bit more strategic in choosing where its parked to have room for whatever I'm doing.

The thought in my head is the yard equipment bay could be the lift bay. That stuff is all easy to move and much smaller than a car so easyish to distribute around the shop. Then store the ferrari up top...on the rare occasion I'm working on something else :)

Right now I don't think I need to decide anything. The ferrari needs the engine repaired so as soon as I have the space ready it will be pulled in and I'll get to work. But it done and I move on to other things, then the problems start. Lana doesn't really like the mower or the ferrari parked in the attached garage so just parking my driver out to free up a spot there isn't really an option, I'll need to find room in the shop....or build a shed for the mower :)

For sure I don't need the 14k lbs version, that would lift all 3 of my cars at once. :o

I'll need to sort out how I want to layout the space and see what if anything makes sense. A lift in bay 3 (nearest the house) might work...might.

The building inspector just left. He was a bit confused that I was showing him rough framing and telling him its all done so no need for him to ever come back. I thought the bins and car were a nice touch as I talked about how the money is all spent so I guess its more a car port than garage but in the end we agreed that windows, doors, and paint do not require permits so there is no need for him to ever come back.

Its really cold here this week, teens during the day, so no action outside anyway. Next week it should be back into the 40s so maybe I can get the wrapping on which needs to be done before the windows and doors can go in. We also need so pick out the garage doors....we keep going back and forth between cheep and pretty, right now pretty is winning and they are a 3-4 week lead time. Maybe I'll be done with everything but the stucco by spring so first warm weather I can jump on the stucco.

Lol... Well... I thought you had what Lana thought the building would cost rather than any kind of project budget. If she can do 95% estimates, she could probably make more money than you working as a consultant in the construction industry :P
